Position Number 0127989
Position Details

The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking an engineering scientist with an expertise in fluid dynamics, biomechanics or computer modeling and an interest in middle-ear disease (otitis media). The position will be part of a nationally recognized team of scientists and physicians conducting research in middle-ear diseases. Diseases of the middle ear are a major public health problem and are often related to eustachian tube dysfunction. Ongoing research includes a mix of clinical, biological and analytical techniques to better understand and treat middle-ear disease. This research program has been continuously funded by the NIH for over 30 years and has an international reputation for contributions to our understanding of the eustachian tube in health and disease. An ambitious, talented individual with an engineering background is needed for the future. The candidate does not necessarily require a background in either otitis media or eustachian tube function. The candidate should have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. The position will be tenure-track in the School of Medicine and a joint appointment in the Swanson School of Engineering, with the rank being dependent upon the candidate’s training and experience. We are looking to fill the position in or around September 2010. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineering scientist to become a leader in medical research in an important disease in which there historically has been little input from engineers.
