Position Description

The Department of Medicine Division of VMI is seeking a qualified Lab Specialist. The incumbent will be responsible for the management (breeding, weaning, sacrificing, tracking mouse colony census) of multiple lines of mice according to a predetermined timeline to meet experimental needs. He/she will work closely with multiple group-leaders within the PI’s lab to manage animal needs in a timely and cost-efficient fashion.

Other responsibilities include:
- assisting in survival and end-point mouse studies including the collection and transfusion of blood and organ recovery after euthanasia
- preparing, submitting, and revising appropriate regulatory documents to IACUC, IBC, EHS
- assisting with supply management and preparation of reagents

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted. Work as Graduate level student is acceptable as work experience. At least 2 years for fulltime GSR, and at least 3 years of fractional experience in laboratory research with knowledge of biologic science and well as experience in utilization/management of rodent colonies and studies is preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
