Position Description

The Research Technician will receive biological specimens (blood, CSF) on subject enrolled on clinical trials. Incumbent will log these in and will perform separation of plasma/serum from cellular fractions using density centrifugation, immunonomagnetic methods, perform immunofluorescent staining, multicolor surface and intracellular FACS analysis, proliferation (MLC), Luminex assays to measure cytokine production from purified cell populations in response to microbial antigens and /or allogeneic stimulator cells. The incumbent will also perform ELISPOT assay and must be comfortable with cell/tissue culture of primary human cells. He or she may also perform PCR assays.

The incumbent will also confer with Principal Investigators in determining specific experiments to be included in the research protocol and enter the collected data into a dedicated database. The Technician will assist in data recording and low complexity processing. Additional responsibilities include: preparing and disposing of reagents necessary for research, and maintaining lab inventory, including timely ordering of required supplies. A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other basic science is required.

This position is located at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in Lawrenceville. TB test and PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment. EEO/AA/M/F/Vets/Disabled.

A Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or related scientific field is required.
