Position Description

The mission of the Department of Immunology is to discover new mechanisms and pathways of the immune system to enrich human health by combating and preventing disease, enhancing vaccination, and controlling autoimmunity. The department has a mission of training students, post-doctoral fellows, physicians and other young scientists to be proficient in immunology.

The Department of Immunology is seeking a qualified Research Technician. The Research Technician position will be responsible for carrying out a variety of experiments in cellular and molecular immunology. These include maintaining cells and cell lines in tissue culture, performing fluorescence-activated cell sorter analysis, and cell proliferation assays. Procedures also include infections and transfections with retroviral and lentiviral vectors and handling of nucleic acids and proteins. Standard assays such as PCR based mycoplasma testing are required to be performed, and the incumbent will be responsible for the breeding, maintenance, and screening of several transgenic mouse lines by PCR. The incumbent will also assist with mouse experiments such as vaccinations and tumor cell injections.

The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining computer files and managing data, ordering lab supplies, and maintaining a general laboratory inventory.

BS in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry preferred. Laboratory experience in biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, or other related fields required. Computer literacy and knowledge of mathematical and chemical principles required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
