Position Description

The Department of Critical Care Medicine is seeking a junior Lab Technician to work in the CRISMA Center Clinical Research Biospecimen Core Lab (CRBC Lab), which specializes in processing, receiving, storing and distributing human biological samples for use by our medical investigators. The Lab Technician will conduct both technical and administrative tasks in support of multiple research projects and clinical studies.

The primary responsibility will be to build and maintain all specimen collection/processing kits, which includes maintaining supply inventory, processing specimens, pulling and logging specimens, shipping specimens and maintaining approximately 40 freezers. Under the supervision of senior lab staff and the lab manager, the lab tech also will be responsible for various day-to-day activities to maintain the lab, which may include making stock solutions, initiating and tracking purchase requests, organizing the tracking chemicals, supplies and equipment and performing daily/weekly checks of various equipment. The incumbent will also assist the senior lab staff in conducting a variety of translational research experiments (ELISA, Luminex, Nephrocheck).

Prior experience in a research or lab setting is preferred but not required; technical training will be provided. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is essential.

The successful applicant will be expected to work well as part of a team and be capable of performing tasks independently. Must have meticulous work habits, and be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple projects.

Knowledge of project and specimen management and basic/translational research a plus but not required.
