Position Description

The Research Technician will assist in managing a mammalian specimen colony, tissue harvest and processing, and organization and completion of experiments. The technician will assist in performing various other molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction, qualitative and quantitative real-time PCR, electrophoresis, and Western blotting, along with histologic techniques and immunohistochemistry. Additional responsibilities include preparing and disposing of reagents necessary for research, initiation and management of orders and inventory, tracking supplies, and expenditures for the laboratory.

A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or other basic science is required. Must be dependable, conscientious, detail-oriented, a great communicator, and possess strong organizational and time management skills. Previous experience in cellular and molecular biology and mammalian specimen is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Proficiency with GraphPad or similar graph and statistical software package. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

This position is located at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland. TB test and PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required as a condition of employment. EEO/AA/M/F/Vets/Disabled.

Bachelor of science degree in chemistry, biology or other basic science. Previous lab experience, working with mice is required.
