Position Description

The Department of Medicine, the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and CCM at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Technician to provide research support in a lung immunology focused laboratory. This includes assisting in the basic design, execution, and interpretation of a variety of laboratory experiments.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for performing and assisting with laboratory techniques and assays, including but not limited to immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, western blots, PCR, ELISA, Lincoplex, cell culture, murine manipulations and surgical procedures, and DNA/RNA extraction. The incumbent will be expected to perform surgical procedures and treatments on research animals (mice) independently. The incumbent will perform animal care duties, including mouse breeding and colony management. The incumbent will also handle human specimens (blood) and process for analytics.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

The candidate should have a good knowledge of basic laboratory skills and must be able to work independently on tasks. Bachelor’s degree is required, but
Associates degree with additional experience may be considered. Two years of wet-lab research experience including some molecular laboratory skills (PCR, ELISA) and cell culture is highly recommended. Strong organizational skills, dependability, and good communication skills are required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
