Position Description

The National Scholarships Advisor identifies, recruits, and assists Pitt’s top students to compete for national and international grants and awards. These awards include, but are not limited to, Marshall, Rhodes, Truman, Churchill, Goldwater, Gates, Udall and Fulbright. The National Scholarships Advisor is responsible for:

- identifying and recruiting the university’s top student candidates
- preparing candidates to compete successfully through unique programmatic initiatives
- the management of the campus application process from the honing of personal statements, academic plans and research project proposals, to advising candidates on the selection of mentors and recommendation writers
- the ranking of applicants for campus endorsements and the final submission of application materials

Additionally, the National Scholarship Advisor will select and organize faculty committees for screening and selection purposes, publicize student awardees, and maintain communication with fellowship boards and foundations to ensure compliance with required procedures and deadlines.

Education Required Master's
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

PhD preferred, 2-3 years experience in higher education advising or national scholarship advising, experience competing for or winning a national scholarship.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
