Position Description

This Senior Statistician position in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) will provide study design and statistical analysis to investigators at the University of Pittsburgh engaged in quality improvement (QI) and quality assurance (QA) research through the CTSI’s Pediatric PittNet core. In addition, the incumbent will interact with the CTSI’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) core, clients who submit requests for services through CTSI.

The incumbent will be responsible for tasks related to the following:
- complex statistical methods that apply to all phases of clinical studies, in particular QI/QA approaches
- data analysis methodology and study design at the beginning of a study or quality improvement initiative
- a range of tests of change over time, including statistical process control charts, interrupted time series analysis, and difference-in-differences
- novel research design such as stepped-wedge design and cluster randomized RCTs
- reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex technical documents
- adapting to changing analytic methods and learning new analysis techniques as required by client projects
- collaborating with a client’s research team, including faculty mentors, to establish research methods
- presenting complex issues in oral and written form
- writing, editing, and reviewing final analysis-related reports for publication during all stages of the drafting and review process
- working with computer data management systems and methods of analysis and statistical packages (R, SAS, SPSS, and Stata) to design new statistical and data management programs to meet the needs of client requests

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, attention to detail are essential, in addition to flexibility in both the scheduling and the timing of appointments with clients. The incumbent must have the ability to work on and successfully complete multiple simultaneous projects under pressure of deadlines and have the ability to use independent judgment when carrying out tasks.

Masters degree with 5 or more years experience in Epidemiology, Public Health, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research or Statistics
