Position Description

The Health and Physical Activity department is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant to assist physicians within the context of weight control, exercise and related chronic disease studies funded by the National Institutes of Health and other extramural agencies and internal entities.

The Physician Assistant will perform clinical procedures under the direction of the Principal Investigator and supervising physicians according to approved protocols. The Physician Assistant will also obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, perform medical procedures that include blood collection, tissue biopsies, heart rate (including ECG) and blood pressure measurement, urine collection, lab kit packaging and shipping samples, and assist with other procedures as needed such as exercise stress testing.

Candidate will also collect, document lab specimens and enter and manage data. The ideal candidate for the Physician Assistant role will maintain effective communication with investigators, physicians, and staff; work with research volunteers in a competent, professional and courteous manner; and keep abreast of current research and clinical procedures, incorporating relevant findings into specific areas of clinical research. Requires excellent problem solving, judgment, and analytic abilities. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to consistently juggle and prioritize multiple, competing demands. Must function as a team player.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Graduation from an institution accredited by the American Academy of Physician Assistants granting a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree for Physician Assistants.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Possess current unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. If selected, candidate must maintain their unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME).
Possess a current certification of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Training.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.
