Position Description

The University Child Development Center exists to encourage and support each child to grow to his/her fullest potential in all areas of development, thus creating a positive self-concept and a realistic opportunity for success in life. Teachers work with children individually and in small and large groups, identifying their strengths while learning how to work together as a community.

The Assistant Teacher will work in a classroom at the Child Development Center with children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 months. The position involves a collaborative effort in supporting the functions of the classroom as a whole under the supervision of a Head Teacher and an Associate Teacher. Staff are required to maintain all NAEYC Standards, Keystone STAR Standards, and DHS regulations. Staff member must maintain 24 hours of professional development annually and complete all other required center and state trainings.

Incumbent must have a High School Diploma or GED and at least 15 credit hours in higher education in child care, early childhood or child development. At least 2 years of experience with infants is required.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.

Staff member will work one of three shifts in the classroom between the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, depending on the needs of the classroom.
