Position Description

UPCI Basic Research Administration is seeking a Research Technician. The incumbent will work as part of a research team and provide general laboratory assistance to support lab research activities, including conducting assigned research projects. The incumbent will conduct research experiments in molecular and cellular biology, cancer biology, and microbiology in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. The incumbent will also be tasked with the following:

- performing assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction
- compiling data and computing results for a variety of research procedures, tests, and techniques
- maintaining lab supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level
- anticipating needed supplies and placing and expediting orders for supplies
- verifying receipt of supplies
- making common stock buffers and reagents
- maintaining the lab mouse colony (animal husbandry)
- ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations in conjunction with the lab and safety and regulatory offices such as OSHA, radiation, IACUC, and IRB

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Must be able to work flexible hours. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in general biology and some relevant laboratory experiences.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
