Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health Human Genetics department is seeking a Research Technician.

This incumbent will coordinate and conduct research studies for a major research project with a focus on testing therapeutic strategies and the molecular mechanisms underlying a class of neurological disorders known as Leukodystrophies. The laboratory uses human genetic approaches as well as research on model organisms such as mice and fruit flies, to study the genetic basis of adult onset demyelination.

Responsibilities will include both research and lab management such as deriving primary cell lines from mice, cell culture, mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, DNA and RNA isolation from animal and human samples, organizing lab inventories and ordering supplies. Scope of work will range from PI to other lab personnel with ongoing research.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics related fields. Prior lab experience in molecular biology is essential.
