Position Description

The Department of Otolaryngology began in 1895 as a purely clinical activity. As of 2016, the department has over 40 full-time faculty members, representing all of the subspecialties of otolaryngology. While the primary mission continues to be providing high-quality patient care, we are additionally dedicated to advancing education and research within the field of otolaryngology.

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Lab Technician who will be responsible for data collection and analysis, according to protocols defined in NIH grant applications. They will also be responsible for the care and maintenance of animals, according to standards defined by the federal government and the University of Pittsburgh IACUC. In addition, this individual will instruct junior laboratory members and students regarding methods for data collection, analysis, and animal care along with monitoring progress to assure that all Federal and University regulations are adhered to.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, physiology, biology, psychology, or a related field of study and prior experience in a research laboratory is required. Experience with a wide range of data analytic methods, particularly experience with neurophysiologic experiments, and experience working with animals is preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
