Position Description

The Division of Environmental and Occupational Health is seeking a Research Specialist to join a lab examining the cellular and molecular mechanisms of genomic instability associated with aging and cancer. The primary duties of this position include tasks related to the following:

- protein biochemistry
- the use of radioactively or fluorescently labeled DNA substrates
- FPLC protein purification maintenance of cell cultures
- DNA isolation and analysis
- standard molecular biology assays
- immunofluorescence
- microscopy

The incumbent will be required to analyze and interpret results from protocols, in addition to designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting existing and newly developed experimental protocols in the lab. The incumbent is expected to perform such duties independently while receiving advice and input as needed from the supervisor. Participation in lab maintenance, chemical hygiene, and radiation safety are also required. Computer skills, data management, and strong organizational skills are required. The incumbent is also expected to train lab staff on general lab practices and routine established experimental protocols in addition to supervising work-study students assisting in lab maintenance.

Must understand how to trouble-shoot required procedures.

Required Licenses/Certifications

All normal lab module and training in Chemical Hygiene and Blood-bourne antigens. And anything else required by the lab.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.
