Position Details

The University of Pittsburgh’s College of General Studies (CGS) invites applications for the Position of Lecturer 2 (Undergraduate Program Director), pending budgetary approval. The Lecturer/Director is responsible for overseeing the administration and daily operation of the Administration of Justice and Legal Studies programs, and collaborate in the management of other programs as appropriate. The successful candidate will have academic experience supervising faculty in higher education and possess strong management, financial, and communication skills. Applicants holding advanced graduate degrees (Ph.D., MA/MS and JD) with backgrounds in criminal justice, criminology, law, sociology, social work, or administration of justice and teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Lecturer/Director will be responsible for:
• Supervising the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the Administration of Justice and Legal Studies programs.
• Staffing the Administration of Justice and Legal Studies courses and overseeing the quality of instruction (observing classes, reviewing syllabi, and recommending revisions)
• Partnering with the Director of the Urban Studies Program, the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the College of General Studies on strategic planning, and also serving as the program’s representative to University administration.
• Partnering with the Director of the Urban Studies Program, the Assistant Dean and Director of Academic Affairs of the College of General Studies on curricular development: defining learning objectives for the programs, and designing a core curriculum and assessment process.
• Serving as ex-officio member of the College of General Studies Council.
• Scheduling courses for the Administration of Justice and Legal Studies Programs.
• Teaching six courses per year (with reductions for administrative duties), including on-line courses, as well as completing faculty and course evaluations annually.
• Managing the program’s instructional budget and exercising jurisdiction over the expenditure of the budget and other funds at the program’s disposal.
Maintaining all records and correspondence relating to the program.
Developing strong outside-the-classroom mentoring and experiential learning opportunities for students.
• Building professional networks in the local community to enhance program’s curriculum and experiential learning opportunities.
• Overseeing and strengthening the internship program.

The position (rank of Lecturer 2) starts on July 15, 2018. This is a full-time, non-tenure stream position and is being made on an annual basis. Salary commensurate with experience.
