Position Description

The Department of Theatre Arts is seeking a Master Electrician/Director of Lighting for all theatrical productions. This position is a full-time, 9-month position. The incumbent is responsible for the following:

- working with the Technical Director and Show Designer in design layout and needs for shows
- operation and programming of computerized light and sound consoles
- developing plans for set design
- coordinating all maintenance of lighting, sound, and soft goods
- inspection of all equipment to ensure compliance with OSHA
- attending all staff, area, design, and production meetings at least weekly
- researching and recommending light and sound equipment purchases
- primary purchaser for all construction materials for shows
- collaborating and working with outside theatre lessee to determine lighting and sound needs
- interviewing, selecting, training, and supervising all work-study students and temporary employees in lighting, sound, and design
- tracking and recording all expenses associated with shows
- serving as the Dietrich School’s Operation Manager in lighting needs for performances and shows produced in Alumni Hall

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Ability to read, interpret and execute drafting independently. MFA desirable, BA or BS plus 2 years experience in theatre with an emphasis in technical theatre or 2 or more years of experience is desirable. Must have experience supervising workers in the construction of theatrical sets. Must be familiar with OSHA regulations and Theatre Safety.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.

Work hours will be Tuesday through Saturday 8:30-5:00 with occasional Sunday depending on show schedules. During production times of at least four times a year individual will be on call. During technical week there will be extended work hours.
