The Center for Cellular and Molecular Engineering (CCME) in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.

The existing Center faculty has strengths in cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cells, gene therapy, biomaterials, microphysiological systems, and tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. We are seeking candidates that can expand our research program to include the combination of these technologies to develop microphysiological tissue systems that model disease pathogenesis and offer a platform for the screening of potential therapeutics.

Responsibilities will include participation in ongoing projects including osteochondral microtissue studies to include 3D microtissue fabrication and characterization, biomaterials preparation, imaging analyses, mechanical testing, and animal surgeries and analyses. Incumbent will also be responsible for data analysis and preparation for scholarly presentations and publications. The successful candidate will also be involved in the set-up of the laboratory, management of research facilities, coordination and oversight of research activities and will provide orientation and training to new lab members. This position will assist in the training of undergraduate and graduate research students, medical students, resident researchers, and post-doctoral research fellows in basic laboratory techniques, experimental design, and data analysis.

Applicants should have a strong background in understanding of cellular and molecular biology/engineering with expertise in biomaterials, bioreactors, micro-techniques for tissue and cell diagnosis and repair, and cell-based approaches to the study of cartilage biology and pathogenesis and treatment of degenerative joint diseases, such as osteoarthritis.
