Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh Student Accounting & Billing department is seeking a Student Financial Systems Accountant. This position is primarily responsible for the entire 3rd party billing process including the creation of 3rd party contracts for over 160 corporate, governmental, and foreign sponsors, invoicing over 1,000 students in excess of $15,000,000 annually, posting payments, and managing the collection of all passed due accounts receivable balances. Specific responsibilities include:

• Create and maintain 3rd party contracts within PeopleSoft based on sponsor preferences
• Create and maintain 3rd party contracts for the schools to post departmental aid
• Assist departmental contacts in utilizing PeopleSoft to post departmental aid
• Invoice 3rd party sponsors monthly
• Customize invoices as required by sponsor
• Invoice government agencies within their own invoicing systems including Wide Area Workflow, Go Army, Army Medical Operational Data System, MyCaa, AI Portal, and OB10
• Identify wire transfers payments to the appropriate general ledger account
• Post the preceding payments to the appropriate student’s sponsored account in PS
• Post journal entries to correct wire transfers credited to the wrong account
• Process refunds to sponsors as needed
• Assist Veteran Services with the chapter 33 certification process and maintenance
• Follow up on and collect unpaid invoices
• Post journal entries to account for returned E-Check payments and associated fee
• Review departmental email mailbox and management information reporting related to item type requests, duplicate fees waived, S09 hold removal, S12 hold removal, and unapplied credits

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Successful candidates will possess a combination of the following core competencies:
• Bachelor’s Degree with two to three years’ experience in diverse accounting
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills with the ability/desire to work in a team environment
• Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating environment, database query tools and PeopleSoft software a plus
• Working knowledge of PeopleSoft (PS) Student Financials System, Image Now imaging workflow software, COGNOS database query tools and their supporting PS database structures is a plus
• Accounting and business related experience a definite plus

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
