Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Student Financial Systems Accountant. The position is responsible for student refunds in excess of $96,000,000 annually including the accounting, reconciliation, maintenance, Title IV compliance, escheat accounting and internal controls over duplicate, errant or fraudulent refunds. This position is also responsible the accounting and reconciliation for all alternative loans approaching $60,000,000 annually via our third party loan servicer. Substantial knowledge of reporting, student financials, and financial aid disbursement is required. The position is also responsible for supporting our Third Party Sponsored billing of $36,000,000 annually. In addition, the position supports the Assistant Director with maintenance and problem resolution of the PeopleSoft Student Financial System including supporting the academic departments, Regional Campuses, and Benefits/Faculty Records.

Specific responsibilities related to accounting and reconciliation of the Student Payment Interface Systems include:

• Third Party Sponsored Billing
• Cashiering
• Lockbox
• Internet Payments
• Sponsored Scholarships

• International Payments

Specific responsibilities related to maintaining student refund process include:

• Reconcile alternative loans to 3rd party processor Great Lakes, bank reporting and student accounts
• Assist departmental contacts in utilizing PeopleSoft to resolve student account issues
• Invoice Pennsylvania Bureau of Workforce 3rd party sponsor
• Identify wire transfers payments to the appropriate general ledger account
• Post journal entries to account for returned E-Check payments and associated fee

The incumbent is responsible for viewing departmental email mailbox and management information reporting as follows:

• Item type requests
• Duplicate fees waived
• S09 hold removal
• S12 hold removal
• Unapplied credits

Education Required Baccalaureate
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s Degree with two to three years’ experience in diverse accounting.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
