Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Director of Planned Giving to join a progressive team within the University’s Office of Institutional Advancement. This position reports to the Managing Director of Individual Giving and Special Projects. Responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for the Office of Planned Giving and managing the University’s planned giving program and staff, including the identification, qualification, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals making deferred and other specially structured gifts to the University of Pittsburgh.

In addition, the incumbent provides supervision of the planned giving staff and collaborative leadership/consultation to other University development staff on potential planned gifts. The Director will also serve as a consultant to a number of development staff on potential major and planned gifts and will be expected to develop and deliver training to staff and volunteers. The Director manages fundraising efforts from current and prospective donors evaluated with the capacity to donate $100,000 or more as well as build a diverse and sustainable portfolio. The incumbent must be willing to travel.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 5-6 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s degree in related field and/or law degree preferred. Major gift/planned giving development experience required. Capital campaign experience is desired.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
