Position Description

Our Department consists of Housing, Food Services, Panther Central, the University Stores, and Conference Services. Our team is responsible for the maintenance, operations, and assignments for all on-campus residence halls and University-owned off-campus apartments. We oversee three retail locations on campus – The University Store on Fifth, The Pitt Shop, and Maggie & Stella’s Cards & Gifts. Finally, our team provides concierge-level customer service through Panther Central, our 24/7 ID Center on campus, and our Conference Services team. Behind the scenes, our team manages a variety of different areas within the Department such as Communications, Business Systems, Financial Operations, Human Resources, and Data Analysis in order to best serve our customers.

We are seeking a talented Buyer of the General Merchandise Department for The University Store on Fifth and The Pitt Shop. The Buyer reports to the Merchandise Manager and is responsible for managing all aspects of the department, including but not limited to, insignia gifts, regalia, medical school supplies, school & art supplies, general gifts & greeting cards. Responsibilities include retail buying, budgeting and financial analysis, sales, merchandising and promotions, planning and implementation. Some weekend and event hours are required seasonally. Overtime will be required as necessary to accomplish departmental goals and assure coverage for events and during peak times.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Baccalaureate and 3 years minimum general merchandise buying and/or management experience with 2 years in a supervisory position preferred.

Or 5 years minimum of general merchandise experience and 2 years in a supervisory position preferred. Must have strong knowledge of the retail and college markets.

Experience in retail principles and practices, sales, inventory management and systems, web sales, merchandising and marketing and customer service is expected. Collegiate licensing experience preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
