Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute is seeking a qualified Research Technician to work in the laboratory of Dr. Saumen Sarker.

With a focus on molecular biology and immunological methods to study antiviral and anticancer innate immunity, the position will be responsible for studying the innate immunity in the field of cancer virology.

The incumbent will be required to perform routine scientific experiments and analysis without being involved in any supervisory activities. The incumbent must be able to learn how to prepare buffer solutions, maintain accurate notebooks and operate/maintain laboratory equipment including gel scanners, pH meters, balances, thermocycler and power supplies. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must. Techniques will involve DNA/RNA analysis, cloning, Western Blotting and other biological assays. The incumbent will be primarily working under the close supervision of senior research scientists and carry out mainly routine, well-established procedures. Position will require management of EHS guidelines and all associated compliance for the laboratory.
