Position Description

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition within the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Clinical Research Coordinator.

This position will coordinate clinical research activities within the definition of various research study protocols that include patient recruitment activities, preparation of protocol budgets, assist with IRB preparation and submission, assist with regulatory compliance, and document preparation.

The incumbent will coordinate and provide direct patient care within the study, prepare for study site visits from the sponsors of the clinical research study, maintain all clinical records for research patients, collect and process tissue samples from patients, and provide regular communications between all study partners and health care providers.

The individual will also supervise research technical staff and other junior staff as appropriate. The Clinical Research Coordinator is expected to maintain HIPAA guidelines and follow IRB protocols at all times.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Nursing License (BSN) preferred but Master’s degree in health or health science related field may be considered. Strong computer skills in database interaction and electronic health record use. Focused IRB and research protocol experience is necessary. Coordination of multicenter or multi-investigator studies and/or industry sponsored studies is preferred. Experience with electronic medical records (EpicCare, Cerner, MARS) and database management is preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Nursing License (BSN) strongly preferred.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.
