Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Project Manager in the Work Planning- Jobs in Process department. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the following:

- building envelope, structure, concrete, repair, and landscaping design projects of limited scope and managing specific architectural projects
- determining user needs and managing the development of construction drawings and specifications with other University departments and as assigned by the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Planning, Design, and Construction
- develops “Scope of Work” that accurately reflects the User’s needs within University standards, establishes a preliminary budget and schedules, and ensures that the funding for the project is approved
- prepares, reviews, and processes contract documents or documents submitted by the Professionals to ensure compliance with University standards, codes, and regulations, the Professional’s Standards Manual, and the Users needs
- interacts with Professional and other constituencies as required to bring the project within schedule and budget, keeps track of fees and expenditures, and reviews applications for payment
- ensures that the User understands the project management process and agrees with the established budgets and schedules

The incumbent is responsible for remaining in compliance with procedures established in the Project Management Manual and in the development of new procedures. They follow established DGS procedures for interaction with contractors, professionals, and State employees in order to ensure that the University needs are incorporated in the State funded projects.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Architectural Engineering or Construction Management is required. Five to six years of experience in design is required. Design experience in a higher education/campus environment is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment is required. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable building codes, construction standards, and design standards is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
