Position Details

The Department of Music of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a faculty position to begin September 1, 2018, pending budgetary approval. The appointment will be made at the level of Lecturer, not in the tenure stream, for an initial term of three years.

Position:
Lecturer in Ethnomusicology; full-time, non-tenure stream; renewable.

Duties:
Teach undergraduate courses in ethnomusicology (2 courses per semester); teach the University Gamelan (1 course per semester); and share in departmental responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Candidates will have received the PhD or MA degree by June 2018 and demonstrated evidence of scholarly promise and excellence in teaching.

The successful candidate will work closely with the ethnomusicology faculty. We are particularly interested in candidates who can develop and teach new courses in the study of popular music.

The Department of Music offers the B.A. degree within a liberal arts school and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in musicology, ethnomusicology, jazz studies, and composition and theory. The graduate program provides students with instruction in the histories, methodologies, theoretical frameworks and analytical techniques of the sub-disciplines, and encourages interaction across sub-disciplines.
