Position Description

The Division of Molecular Genetics & Biochemistry in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Research Specialist.

The incumbent will design, develop, and maintain a variety of tissue culture cell lines. He/She will expose cells to various DNA damaging agents and herpes viruses, collect and analyze results, and examine viral protein, cellular proteins, RNA, as well as cell toxicity.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences required with an understanding of theory and practice of basic techniques in tissue culture, immunology, and biochemistry as well as relevant lab experiences.

The incumbent should have a level of proficiency in the growth and maintenance of a microbial culture as well as complex biochemical procedures, which includes recombinant DNA cloning and manipulation, protein purification, and functional analysis.
