Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Associate Director for Research and Administration for the School of Pharmacy’s Program Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU). PERU is dedicated to meaningful research and its contribution to a health system that facilitates a patient’s ability to achieve optimal health and well-being. Since its founding in 2006, PERU has expanded its program development and research to four areas: substance use disorder education and research; opioid use disorder prevention, intervention, and treatment; medication adherence; and organizational health for healthcare systems.

The Associate Director’s position is for a vital and innovative health services and policy research program within the School of Pharmacy. The Program Evaluation Research Unit (PERU) has over 40 staff and a multi-million dollar annual budget from federal, state, and private sources. PERU has an excellent reputation with its funders and has been successful in sustaining continued funding for over 18 years. The successful candidate will assist with hiring, fostering staff development, budget development and monitoring, project management, communication with project funders and University stakeholders, grant development, and strategic planning. The successful candidate should derive satisfaction from working in a position that makes a difference in the lives of patients and communities across the country.

This position requires the incumbent to work in a highly independent manner. The incumbent will be responsible for working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to directly manage the entire research and evaluation projects at PERU.

The incumbent will also be responsible for:
- Developing, implementing, and providing continuous monitoring of strategic plans.
- Researching and determining funding opportunities for continued financial support.
- Preparing grant proposals to foundation, state, and federal funding agencies by directing faculty and staff.
- Facilitating contracts by evaluating vendors, identifying terms and conditions, and establishing the scope of services and performance metrics.
- Providing oversight and approval to faculty, staff, and stakeholders on the development of study design.

A Master’s or doctorate degree with a strong successful history of program management in the areas of health services or health policy research coupled with a demonstrated ability to manage staff at varying levels and manage multiple projects successfully is required

Master’s degree must be in health care, human services, or other relevant field. Organizational and communication skills are essential.
