Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Medicine Division of Pulmonary Medicine. Under the general direction and supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of clinical research/trial coordination for assigned studies conducted in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM).
The Clinical Research Coordinator will work with the PI and his group of internationally recognized researchers participating in federal and/or industry-sponsored research projects. The incumbent will assist with study design, implementation of study protocols, subject recruitment, consenting, scheduling and facilitating study visits, data collection, biological sample collection, processing, storage and shipment, and maintaining electronic research data and documents/case report forms and source documents. Administrative tasks include facilitating meetings, answering queries, and handling invoices. Involvement in clinic work will be required including the performance of phlebotomy with minor laboratory skills, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function and other study procedures as mandated by study protocols. Other duties will be required as assigned by supervisor.
Flexible hours may be necessary given the uncertainty of subject flow in research studies.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelors’s degree in scientific or clinical field. One to two years’ experience with research protocols or in a clinical research work environment. Experience with various patient testing methodologies (vital signs, research questionnaires, psychometry, phlebotomy, etc.) is essential. Experience in University of Pittsburgh processes and systems preferred. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with health care and research professionals. Good human relations, communication and organizational skills required. Strong written communications skills required. Computer knowledge and skills required. Extensive experience (9+ years) may be considered in lieu of the Bachelors Degree.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
