Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh Aging Institute is seeking a self-motivated, flexible and well-organized Laboratory Specialist. The primary work for this Laboratory Specialist position is directed at the understanding of the causes of aging-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancers. This position requires a self-motivated person to work independently with moderate oversight and assistance provided by the supervisor and to execute protocols involving a variety of molecular biotechnologies. This includes regular DNA/RNA handling such as DNA cloning, RNA isolation, PCR, real-time PCR, and cell culture. Previous experiences on lentivirus-based RNAi knockdown and CRISPR/Cas9 will be strongly considered.

The location for this position is Bridgeside Point 1, 100 Technology Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field, or equivalent experience is required. Further advanced education in relevant area would strengthen the application. 3 years of professional level experience in laboratory research with knowledge of biologic science and acceptable scientific research training.

Must be flexible and well organized in managing multiple tasks, and able to clearly document data and activities in a lab notebook. Must effectively communicate with PI and other lab personnel and faculty and contribute to lab management (expenditure, supplies, regulatory and training).
