Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Research Specialist V to serve as the senior lab researcher in a lab conducting electrophysiological, biochemical, rodent behavioral, and molecular studies. The role primarily involves conducting and analyzing experimental projects, with a lesser role in organization of laboratory function (maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies), and training and supervising students and post-doctoral fellows.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Skilled electrophysiologist with Master’s in Life Sciences (PhD preferred) and at least 10 years of relevant laboratory experience. Must be able to perform surgical and physiologic procedures on lab rodents and monitor general health of animals. Must be able to perform slice and cultured neuron electrophysiology experiments, animal handling, protein analysis, and mammalian cell culture. Must be able to perform work with cell cultures and primary neurons in a sterile environment. Experience as a senior research assistant in a laboratory environment.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
