Position Description

The Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Academic Advisor. The Dietrich School is committed to building a culturally diverse staff.

The incumbent will be responsible for providing academic advising and support to the Dietrich School undergraduate students.

The incumbent will advise students and is responsible for the following:
1. Serving as the primary academic liaison for Dietrich School students prior to declaring their major.
2. Assisting students in identifying academic and career goals and aligning those goals with an appropriate undergraduate degree program.
3. Assisting students in identifying courses that align with their academic, career, and personal goals.
4. Providing students with the information and resources necessary to declare an academic major by their sophomore year.

This position is located in a very busy student service area and requires patience, flexibility, energy, and a sincere desire to assist students.

Education Required Master's
Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

1-2 years of experience working with college students preferred.

The knowledge and understanding of developmental advising are preferred. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in support of a diverse community is required. Good organizational skills and communication skills; timeliness, cooperation, and accuracy are musts.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
