The Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine seeks exceptional candidates at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level to help create the scientific foundation of a newly formed multidisciplinary Amyloidosis Center. This new Center bridges the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), combining the scientific environment of the fifth highest NIH-funded institution in the United States with a multi-billion dollar health care system that is the dominant provider in Western Pennsylvania. As such, activities of the Amyloidosis Center will seamlessly span state-of-the-art clinical services for patients with amyloidosis of all etiologies, and basic/translational, and clinical research in amyloidosis, with biobanking and registry participation of clinic patients.
We seek highly motivated investigators who have demonstrated a track record for creative, innovative, and high impact basic/pre-clinical translational research addressing any problem in amyloidosis.
Candidates will be expected to develop a laboratory research program within the Amyloidosis Center that will complement and/or extend existing clinical activities. The candidate should have a PhD and/or MD degree and a strong record of publication and extramural funding. Due to new diagnostic imaging tools, cardiac amyloidosis is emerging as a heretofore underdiagnosed condition, particularly in our aging population, accounting for a significant proportion of diastolic heart failure. Given the unmet need for more intensive research activity in this space, candidates with a specific research interest in cardiac amyloidosis are especially encouraged to apply.
The position will provide an attractive start-up package, significant laboratory space, and a superb environment for collaboration with basic, translational, and clinical scientists, including those within the new Center for Protein Conformational Diseases ( Close partnership with the UPMC health system confers unique opportunities to biobank patient tissue for genetic and/or biomarker analyses, which are supported by strong infrastructure and institutional commitments.
