Position Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a Research Technician to join a relatively new research lab in the Department of Neurobiology (two years old) at the University of Pittsburgh. As a Research Technician, you will participate in investigating the neural mechanisms restricting synaptic development and function in the Hippocampus, a major site of learning and memory in mammals. In addition,
he/she will work on projects related to both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease are ongoing in the lab.

The incumbent will use cutting-edge techniques in neurobiology in order to design, execute and analyze experiments. Rodent animal husbandry skills are required for the upkeep of genetically engineered mice. The incumbent will be a member of the Department of Neurobiology, a supportive training environment that includes a seminar series and a weekly journal club.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to gain research experience in preparation for a career in academic science or medicine. In addition, there will be opportunities to publish in scientific journals and present your research.

B.S. or B.A. in biology, chemistry or related field. An emphasis in Neurobiology is an asset.

The ideal candidate should have a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific discovery. Some experience designing and executing experiments is an asset.

Excellent GPA and outstanding references, proven molecular biology experience, strong communication, organization and record keeping skills, must be a highly motivated team player with strong problem
solving skills.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
