Position Details

The Department of Music of the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a faculty position to begin September 1, 2018, pending budgetary approval. The renewable appointment will be made at the level of Lecturer, not in the tenure stream, for an initial term of three years.

Position: Lecturer in Musicology; full-time, non-tenure stream

Duties: Teach undergraduate courses in music history, 3 courses per semester; participate actively in the profession; share in developing the undergraduate curriculum and other departmental responsibilities.

Qualifications: Candidates will have received the PhD degree by August 2018 and demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching

The successful candidate will work closely with the musicology faculty. We are particularly interested in candidates whose interests complement those of current faculty, who engage actively with current debates in music history pedagogy, particularly efforts toward greater inclusivity and outreach, and who can work across sub-disciplines within the department and with colleagues elsewhere in the University.
The Department of Music offers the B.A. degree within a liberal arts school and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in musicology, ethnomusicology, jazz studies, and composition and theory. The undergraduate program provides students with instruction in the cultural history, world perspectives, theoretical frameworks, performance, and composition of music, and encourages interaction across sub-disciplines.
