Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Division at the School of Pharmacy is seeking a qualified Data Manager to lead the Program Evaluation and Research Unit’s (PERU) state-funded initiative, assessing new approaches to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

Since its founding in 2006, PERU has expanded its program development and research to four areas: substance use disorder education and research; opioid use disorder prevention, intervention, and treatment; medication adherence; and organizational health for healthcare systems. This specific role focuses on opioid-use disorders.

The Data Manager will evaluate project needs and resources in order to develop effective solutions and/or enhancements for complex data and database management. The ideal candidate has managed large-scale data projects or programs: assessing and mitigating risks, managing teams and timelines, implementing technical solutions.

The incumbent will be primarily responsible for project managing and leading the development, analysis, planning, upgrading, directing, designing, coding, testing, technical consultation, and specifications development for existing and/or new and highly complex information systems for critical research grant initiatives. A critical component of this role is ensuring and maintaining the integrity of all data and databases through the development, implementation, and adherence to quality control measures and procedures; this includes designing and establishing standards for data dictionaries, documenting modifications, and data collection instruments.

The Data Manager will act as the primary liaison for external organizations as it pertains to data requests and analyses. As needed, the Data Manager will perform complex statistical analyses and interpretation; create and manage web-based applications, websites, and perform website maintenance; and assist with grant preparation and scientific and technical manuscripts. This position requires the incumbent to work in a highly independent manner.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

•Master’s Degree in Statistics, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field strongly preferred
•Experience with standard statistical programs, such as MySQL, SPSS, SAS, STATA, Tableau, Excel, and database management programs is required
•Applicable project management experience
•PMP Certification is a bonus
•Proven success managing and deploying technical teams
•Effective written and oral communication skills
•Interest in opioid use disorder prevention, intervention, and treatment

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
