Position Description

The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) Web Services Office (NWSO) within Falk Library at the University of Pittsburgh is currently looking for an Assistant Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator/Developer.

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and enhancing NNLM’s Learning Management System and helping guide the design of a new LMS for the NIH All of Us initiative. The position requires an independent, self-motivated programmer who can research, install, and configure Moodle plug-ins to expand NNLM’s LMS capabilities while ensuring all new functions meet or exceed HHS security standards and are 508 compliant. The incumbent will have knowledge of instructional technologies, preferably with experience configuring and managing learning management systems. He/she will possess strong programming and coding skills with knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS; the ability to learn new languages and tools is also vital to continued development.

The position will work with, and report to, the Executive Director to configure and test the new All of Us University system and upgrade the existing NNLM system. The systems will require a Learning Objects Repository that the LMS Administrator is responsible helping to configure. Additionally, the LMS Administrator will work closely with the Assistant Web Developer to create a balanced workload, cross-train, and provide coverage for vacations and sick time.

This position will be the primary liaison to the NNLM Training Office’s instructional technologist, the regional points of contact, the All of Us Coordination Office, and All of Us staff for the All of Us University system. Additionally, this position will be the primary liaison to the NNLM Training Office and education working group for the NNLM system. As such, strong communication skills are required with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate LMS and LOR technology to those with a less technical background.

The incumbent will contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the LMS, including customized enhancements to be contributed back to the open source developer community. Additionally, the LMS Administrator is responsible for managing 508 compliance for the systems.

The LMS Administrator may also be called upon to occasionally assist with other NNLM web services such as Drupal and WordPress.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 5-6 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Instructional Technology, or other related field.

Technical qualifications: PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Moodle
