Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Research Engineer for the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. This position will provide technical support for the conduct of research projects, including device design, device prototyping, product testing, maintaining laboratory space and instrumentation, coordinating research activities such as data collection via complex instrumentation, data analysis, and preparing manuscripts for publication.

The incumbent will be assigned research projects that may require hardware design and fabrication, software programming, and new technology exploration. He/she will actively participate to ensure the projects are completed on-time and meet the highest quality standards.

The position requires a breadth of technical skills as projects are predominately technology based. The incumbent must be able to work independently and in a team. He/she will assist faculty, students, and other staff to further the research missions. The incumbent will also participate in administrative and other duties related to their area. This position requires excellent organizational, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills. The ability to multi-task and problem solve is essential. Occasional travel may be required.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree preferred. Previous experience in the technical engineering applications of a research lab. Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience can be substituted for degree requirement.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
