Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Critical Care Medicine Division within the Department of Medicine is seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician. This position is located in the Clinical Research, Investigation, and Systems Modeling of Acute Illness (CRISMA) Translational Research Laboratory.

The incumbent will provide technical support for various research and clinical studies. He/she will be responsible for project and specimen management, data analysis, and the coordinating and running analysis of specimens and sample pulling. This includes specimen (blood, urine, tissue) intake, logging, retrieval, and delivery as needed, along with building specimen collection kits and shipping kits to participating research sites. The incumbent will also conduct a variety of translational research experiments (cell culture, ELISA, Luminex, Nephrocheck, Western blot). Additionally, he/she will also be responsible for putting together study-related SOPs/study documents and managing large datasets.

In addition, the incumbent will assist researchers with both intramural and extramural proposal development, which may include providing technical support, identifying assay/instrumentation, literature reviews, and/or maintaining and tracking costs of lab equipment and supplies.

The individual must have good communication skills, be highly motivated, detail-oriented, think outside the box, think critically, prioritize multiple projects, and work independently and as a group.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 1-2 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Associate Degree in a relevant degree program or relevant equivalent experience.

One years of clinical or research laboratory experience or knowledge working in a research setting.

Requires knowledge of project and specimen management and basic/translational research, including basic laboratory techniques.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
