Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION
Position as a Research Specialist in the Division of Infectious Diseases/Center for Antibody Therapeutics. Candidate must be able to independently perform cutting edge research, develop complex research protocols, determine experimental processes and data analysis methodology.
Performs highly sophisticated procedures for protein (including antibodies) and DNA production, purification and characterization as well cell line maintenance, manipulation and characterization. Prepares, edits, and reviews material for peer reviewed publications. Provide data for grant
applications and budgeting as required. Prepares IRB applications as needed and is responsible for compliance with IRB and HIPAA regulations. Develops methods for laboratory analysis and adapts existing technology to suit the needs of investigators. Trains Infectious Diseases personnel in complex research methods and evaluates them. Troubleshoots technical laboratory equipment problems.
Oversees the use of common areas and common equipment and recommends procedural changes when needed. Recruitment, training, and supervision of student undergraduate researchers. Position
requires complex judgment and excellent critical thinking analysis. Bachelor degree with at least 6 years of research experience required.

WORK DESCRIPTION

• Perform and optimize highly sophisticated scientific procedures and protocols for cellular and molecular biology studies using complex techniques such as: cell culture, site­ directed mutagenesis, DNA cloning, PCR and DNA sequencing. Develops research project protocols and
determines experimental process and data analysis methodology.
• Operates complex equipment and oversees common areas and equipment. Recommends procedural changes
as needed.
• Performs research activities such as data collection, data input, evaluation, and analysis. Analyzes, reviews, and presents data including statistical analyses.
Prepares IRB applications as needed and is responsible for compliance with IRB and HIPAA regulations

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 5-6 years lab experience

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.
