Position Description

The Main Desk Library Associate is responsible for staffing the Main Desk at the Falk Library of the Health Sciences and overseeing library operations, customer support services during nights and weekends and has authority to make security decisions during evening and/or weekend hours.
In collaboration with the Main Desk Manager, the position recommends and administers policies, procedures and processes in support of Falk Library’s Main Desk implements and monitors compliance with approved policies, procedures and processes.
Incumbent provides support services, including basic reference and circulation assistance to patrons at HSLS libraries. Duties include, but are not limited to: using library technology, in person, email and phone customer support and problem resolution, charging and discharging library materials, entering data into the Integrated Library System, assisting patrons in the use of the library, maintaining the overall appearance of the library.

Customer service experience is essential. The incumbent must have outstanding communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with Health Sciences staff, students, and faculty . He/she should be skilled with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook and web based information seeking. The incumbent is expected to have initiative, dependability, and the ability to work independently following standard practices and defined guidelines. Experience in an academic library or a health sciences library is strongly preferred, preferably in a public services or circulation environment.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
