Position Details

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (Pitt-Johnstown) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure position at the rank of Instructor/ Assistant Professor (commensurate upon experience) in the Education Division to focus on STEM education, beginning Fall 2018.

Responsibilities: Develop and coordinate a STEM-focus across education programs and approval of a STEM endorsement from PA Department of Education; provide pre-service teachers with conceptual knowledge and hands-on experiences in basic engineering design and coding/computer programming; teach science education methods and/or content courses for elementary, middle- and secondary-level; supervise field and clinical experiences; advise undergraduate education students; collaborate with local school districts and stakeholders; and uphold the mission and goals of the Education Division.

Requirements:
Doctorate (preferred) or Master’s degree in Science Education or a related science content area. K-12 school-based experiences in STEM education and/or minimum of three years K-12 teaching experience. Effective teaching and/or supervision experience at the college level highly desirable. Background of instruction for second language acquisition (ELL) or exceptional learners preferred. A strong commitment to working with local schools and community. Successful applicants must be prepared to assist with program coordination and assessment for undergraduate teacher preparation. The candidate must demonstrate the potential for instructional design and teaching effectiveness, student advisement, innovation, and collaboration. The University is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their leadership, research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in working with teaching and leading diverse groups.
