Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Assistant Director in the Residence Life department. The Assistant Director is responsible for the success of academic initiatives in the residence halls including Living Learning Communities, specialty theme floors/buildings, and other academic enhancement programs for resident students. He/she will administer programs with faculty and academic staff; develop, coordinate, and maintain residence hall based academic/tutoring programs; coordinate mentoring/personal education programs; and coordinate the development and implementation of academic study trips. The incumbent will also coordinate with the Director a strategic plan/planning document information, and will assess, collect, and maintain data, statistics, and records. He/she will supervise the Area Coordinator, co-supervise support staff, and indirectly supervise 3-4 Resident Directors. The incumbent will oversee the budget in this area and will direct and facilitate project management, policy development and administration of departmental operations. He/she will participate in on-call duty rotation.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s degree in Student Personnel or a related field required. Strong knowledge of Student Development Theory and proven applications of theory into practice. Experience working with diverse student populations imperative. Strong computer skills a must (Microsoft Office environment) and have ability to collect and interpret data. Knowledge of basic research and programmatic assessment methods necessary.
