Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Academic Advisor in the department of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations. The incumbent will assist students in meeting career goals by providing advice to the undergraduate students and assisting in selecting the appropriate course and registration in University systems; monitoring student participation and progress to ensure program compliance; analyzing progress reports from instructors; identifying current and potential problem areas and referring students to the appropriate university resources for assistance; maintaining student files and records; interpreting and explaining the School of Nursing and the University’s policies and procedures; collaborating with the Director of Advisement and other advisors in activities involving Orientation of new students, PittStart, teaching the Freshmen Seminar course, student organizations, recruitment, graduation, and other work assigned by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni Relations.
The incumbent will be responsible for entering student information into the School of Nursing database, post prerequisite coursework onto student transcripts, and assist with recruitment events and information sessions. In addition, he or she will provide office support as necessary, and complete other work as assigned by the Director of Academic Advisement.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred and/or Bachelor’s degree with previous experience in higher education advisement.
Excellent grammar and communication skills; ability to work well with administrators, faculty, staff and students, or any other relevant advisement/mentoring/coaching.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
