Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine is seeking a qualified Research Project Coordinator. The incumbent will report to the Associate Director of Palliative Care Research and coordinate activities within the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics, in the Division of General Internal Medicine.

The incumbent will be responsible for the overall management and development of the palliative care research team; coordinating the process of grant submissions; developing research proposals and protocols; coordinating protocol implementation and adherence; recruiting research participants and administering study activities, assisting with statistical analyses, and participating in qualitative methods such as coding; supervising and guiding subordinate team members; and assisting in the manuscript generation and development.

The Research Project Coordinator must have strong written and oral communication skills, with experience in scientific writing, clinical trials development and execution, database management, patient interaction, and IRB regulations. High-level organizational skills and research project coordination experience are also required, with the ability to budget time and manage multiple tasks and personnel simultaneously. Familiarity with data management and data analysis are preferred (both qualitative and quantitative). Ideal candidates will also have a strong interest in palliative care, and candidates that have palliative care experience across the age spectrum are highly preferred.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s degree in public health or related field. Minimum of three years in clinical research required, with relevant research experience in patients with serious or life-limiting illness across the age spectrum highly preferred. Experience scheduling, recruiting, and consenting research participants required. Skilled in scientific writing, project coordination and implementation, and leadership ability. Previous research experience in intervention research or observational research required. Demonstrated proficiency in common computer functions (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook), and advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, conditional formatting, functions) required. Basic programming knowledge (HTML, Visual Basic) strongly preferred. Extensive experience of 5+ years will be substituted for the degree. requirements.
