The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a first year engineering co-chair. Each year, upper-level engineering students guide first year engineers through the preparation & presentation stages of a professional caliber engineering conference. We are specifically seeking undergraduate engineering applicants who have completed between three to seven terms as an undergraduate engineer. Preference will be given to those who have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA, and who are not currently working on a co-op rotation. Additionally, preference will be given to applicants who have participated in this conference as first year engineering students.

Job Requirements

All students hired for a co-chair position will be required to attend and assist with the running of the First Year Conference, held on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
- Lead weekly group discussions (approximately 1-2 hours) with one group of twelve or fourteen freshmen engineers on preparation for their first professional conference.
-Working one-on-one with six or seven teams (of two or three students) as they work on editing their conference paper & their PowerPoint presentations. This will be approximately 1-2 hours each week)
-Co-chairs should be comfortable reading multiple writing assignments and providing developmental feedback to their peers. All co-chairs will be responsible for reading each groups papers – each time they submit an update – and providing timely feedback.
-The opportunity to work directly with representatives from industry are also part of this job; each session will be assigned a Chairperson from its respective engineering field. Co-chairs will also be expected to keep their assigned Chairperson updated on students, as well as conference preparation details.
-All co-chairs will be expected to provide email updates on their student’s progress in a timely manner.
-Attendance at bi-weekly meetings with the First Year Program Director (approximately 1 hour in length) are required to ensure each co-chair is current on their priorities with their assigned session/students. Meeting time is TBD based on Co-Chairs availability.

Please note: if you are selected for this position, you CANNOT BE ON A CO OP ROTATION during the spring 2018 term.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
