Position Description

The Neurobiology Division in the Department of Medicine plays a leading role within the Pittsburgh neuroscience community. The Department faculty research programs span to nearly all areas of modern neuroscience, including neural development, circuit function, cellular and synaptic communication, neuronal dysfunction, as well as systems, integrative, and computational neuroscience. To support our research, we are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Manager.

The Laboratory Manager will be involved in neuropathological research focused on Alzheimer’s disease. The individual will be responsible for the preparation of reports of findings, working independently or with close supervision, and should have an eagerness to learn new technologies and techniques. Good organizational skills and familiarity with computers/software are desired. Additional duties include training and assisting new students, postdocs, and technicians. The position represents an excellent opportunity to further basic laboratory and research skills in a dynamic disease-oriented neuroscience environment.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Should have previous experience with laboratory mouse handling, including mouse dissections and isolation of neuronal cultures; molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, cloning, and qPCR; protein biochemical techniques, including SDS-PAGE, western blot analysis, and ELISA; and histological techniques, including microtomy and immunohistochemical staining for this position.
