Position Description

The Renal Electrolyte Division on the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Specialist who will work with the PI to perform studies relating to bladder neurophysiology and maintain general laboratory activities.
This position involves work with pseudorabies, herpes simplex, adeno-associated viruses, uropathogenic bacteria and rodent models.

Additional responsibilities may include: post-operative care of animal models and basic molecular biology experiments; sectioning of frozen and paraffin embedded tissues, histology, preparing and disposing of reagents necessary for research; maintaining transgenic mouse colonies; maintaining cell lines and viral stocks; maintaining records of research related documentation; organizing and tracking the PI lab inventory and ordering research supplies for multiple research teams, etc.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelors Degree in field of science such as chemistry, biology, or related science. Equivalent combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
