Position Description

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Research Specialist. The candidate will join a team of researchers examining the cellular and molecular mechanisms of genomic instability associated with aging and cancer. Primary duties include microscopy, protein biochemistry and purification, the maintenance of cell cultures, and DNA isolation and analysis.

The incumbent will perform standard molecular biology assays. He/she will be required to analyze and interpret results from experimental protocols, in addition to assisting with the designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting of existing and newly developed experimental protocols. The incumbent is expected to perform such duties independently while receiving advice and input as needed from the supervisor. Computer skills, data management, and strong organizational skills are required. Participation in lab maintenance, chemical hygiene, and radiation safety training are required.

The candidate should have a BS or BA in chemistry, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field.

Experience in lieu of education will be considered. Must have experience in pertinent field so that technical ability has been demonstrated.
