Position Description

This position will serve as a Senior Research Technician for the Center for Vaccine Research (CVR), Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL). The incumbent will be responsible for conducting independent methods and procedures for research involving virology, molecular, and cellular biology in Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 and 3 environments with routine BSL3 work in the Regional Biocontainment Facility (RBL). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing specialized sample processing techniques such as blood/tissue processing, RNA extraction, flow cytometry, PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, plaque assay, and sequencing. Incumbent will be responsible for designing and conducting independent studies; analyzing, preparing, interpreting and presenting data as a means of providing recommendations to PI based on analyses; maintaining tissue culture lines and generating primary cell cultures; independently initiating and troubleshooting research protocols; supervising and training other professional research personnel in specialized techniques; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment; maintaining thorough documentation of laboratory results and ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies. This position may require medical surveillance and vaccinations with licensed vaccines.

This position will require successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulation.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Master’s degree preferred. Degree in biology, microbiology, or other related science required. Laboratory experience in biology, molecular biology, immunology and virology is required.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
